Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about finding, comparing, and booking baby friendly hotels in Europe.

In-depth guides

What is the youngest age for a hotel kids club in Europe?

Several luxury European resorts accept babies from 4 to 6 months in supervised childcare; a handful in Austria take infants from as young as 7 days.

Are hotel baby clubs safe?

The best are very safe; the worst are essentially unsupervised playrooms. Look for published staff ratios, dedicated baby carers, and recognised qualifications.

When is the best time to travel to the Mediterranean with a baby?

May to mid June and September to mid October. Warm enough to swim, cool enough to nap, and quieter than peak July and August.

Are hotel kids clubs free?

It depends. All inclusive resorts usually include kids club; many luxury non inclusives charge €20 to €50 per session for under 2s.

How do I choose a baby friendly hotel?

Filter by kids club minimum age first, then check beach reality, buggy access, and whether childcare quality is genuinely verified rather than marketed.

How young can a baby fly to Europe?

Most airlines accept babies from 7 to 14 days old, but paediatricians generally suggest waiting until at least 6 to 8 weeks if possible.

What is the best baby friendly beach in the Mediterranean?

Sani Beach (Halkidiki, Greece) and Anassa Bay (Cyprus) are the gold standards: white sand, shallow shelving, calm water, and proper hotel infrastructure right behind them.

Is all inclusive better than half board for a holiday with a baby?

All inclusive is usually better with babies and toddlers under 3. Half board makes more sense from age 4 onwards.

Should I rent baby equipment or bring my own?

For most European destinations, rent locally. Cots, high chairs, sterilisers, and bath seats are all available; bringing your own car seat is usually the only smart exception.

Can I take a newborn on a European holiday?

Yes, but choose your destination carefully. Newborns under 8 weeks aren't great with strong sun, long flights, or crowded buffets. Austrian Familotels and short flight destinations work better than long haul Med.

About Tiny Trip Index

What is Tiny Trip Index?

Tiny Trip Index is the directory I built because I could not find honest baby specific hotel information anywhere else. One number matters most when you travel with an under five: kids club minimum age. We make it visible, verified, and filterable. Every hotel is manually researched and described like a parent would describe it to another parent.

About us →
Who runs Tiny Trip Index?

Me. A parent who got tired of hotel websites that say "family friendly" and then bury the kids club age in a PDF. Every hotel here is researched by hand, and every description is written by someone who has actually travelled with a baby, not a marketing team.

Our story →
Is Tiny Trip Index free to use?

Yes, completely free. We take no commission on hotel bookings, ever. Reviews are funded by clearly disclosed partner sponsorships and reader support. The hotels we list and how we rank them are decided independently of who pays.

How we make money →
How many hotels are on the site?

We currently have 70+ hotels across 14 countries: Spain, Greece, Portugal, Italy, France, Cyprus, Croatia, Turkey, Malta, Ireland, UK, Austria, Germany, and Morocco. We add new hotels after thorough verification and welcome suggestions from parents.

Kids clubs and childcare

What is the youngest age for a hotel kids club in Europe?

Several luxury resorts accept babies from 4 to 6 months in supervised childcare. Martinhal Sagres (Baby Concierge), Sani Resort Porto Sani (professionally run Worldwide Kids creche from 4 months), Almyra Cyprus (Baby Go Lightly), and Forte Village Sardinia (Fisher Price nursery from birth) are among the best options.

Browse by age →
Are hotel baby clubs safe?

The best baby clubs employ qualified early years professionals. Ikos and Sani resorts use Worldwide Kids childcare. Martinhal has trained baby concierges. We track three specific Childcare Quality Indicators: published staff ratios, dedicated baby carers, and sleep room availability.

Our methodology →
Do I need to book kids club sessions in advance?

It depends on the hotel. High-demand creche slots (especially for under 2s) should be booked before you travel. Many hotels let you reserve kids club sessions when you confirm your booking. I always email the hotel directly to secure preferred times.

Are hotel kids clubs free?

It varies. All inclusive resorts like Ikos and Club Med include kids club in the price. Other hotels charge separately: creche sessions for under 2s typically cost 20 to 50 EUR per session. Evening babysitting is almost always extra (15 to 30 EUR per hour). Always check before booking.

Ratings and badges

What does "Verified Exceptional for Babies" mean?

This is our highest badge, awarded to hotels that excel across all six criteria: accepts babies from a young age, has dedicated baby carers, publishes staff ratios, provides sleep rooms, has genuinely baby friendly facilities, and receives consistently positive parent reviews. It is not a paid placement.

Full criteria →
How is Beach Reality rating calculated?

Beach Reality is a 0 to 5 score reflecting actual conditions for families with babies. We assess: sand quality, water entry safety, shade availability, buggy access, and distance from the hotel. A score of 0 means no beach. Every rating comes with a written note explaining the score.

How is Buggy Friendliness calculated?

Buggy Friendliness is a 1 to 5 score rating how easy it is to navigate the resort with a pushchair. We assess: lift access, ramp availability, path surfaces (cobblestones vs paved), distances between key areas, and any stairs. Information comes from resort maps, parent reviews, and direct enquiries.

What are Childcare Quality Indicators?

Three specific, verifiable data points: (1) whether the hotel publishes its staff-to-child ratios, (2) whether there are dedicated baby carers (not just general staff), and (3) whether a separate sleep/nap room is available. These are binary yes/no indicators, not subjective ratings.

Booking and costs

Can I book hotels directly through Tiny Trip Index?

We do not process bookings directly. Our "Check Prices" buttons link to Booking.com where you can see live prices and availability. We also link to each hotel's official website. You always book directly with the hotel or booking platform, not through us.

Do affiliate links affect the price I pay?

No. The price you see on Booking.com is identical whether you click through from Tiny Trip Index or go directly. Affiliate links earn us a small commission from Booking.com, but this never changes your price or influences our editorial decisions.

Do hotels pay to be listed?

No. Hotels do not pay for inclusion, and paid placement does not influence our ratings, descriptions, or badge awards. Our editorial process is completely independent of commercial relationships.

Planning your trip

When is the best time to take a baby on holiday?

May and June and September are the sweet spot for most Mediterranean destinations. Warm enough for pools (22 to 28C), cool enough for babies, with open kids clubs and manageable crowds. Avoid July and August if possible: temperatures regularly exceed 35C in many destinations.

Seasonality guide →
What should I pack for a baby holiday?

Travel blackout blinds, baby sunscreen SPF50+, a UPF50+ sun suit, your own formula supply, infant paracetamol, and a baby carrier (essential for hilly resorts). We have a complete interactive packing list with expert tips.

Which country is best for a first baby holiday?

Portugal, especially the Algarve, is what I'd pick first: around three hours from the UK and purpose built family resorts like Martinhal with year round operation. Cyprus has outstanding baby hotels, but the flight is four to four and a half hours, so I'd only fly Cyprus if the hotel already has you sold. Both have excellent healthcare and English is widely spoken.

Can I compare hotels side by side?

Yes! Use our comparison tool to select up to 3 hotels and compare them across every dimension: kids club age, childcare quality, beach reality, buggy friendliness, and all amenities.

Data and trust

How do you verify hotel information?

I check every listing the way a tired parent would ask questions: official website, direct email to the hotel, parent reviews on TripAdvisor and forums, then a quality check before it goes live. No scraping. No AI generated fluff. If the ratio is not published, that goes in the listing too.

Full methodology →
How often is the information updated?

We re-verify listings periodically and whenever a parent reports a change. Every hotel page shows a "Last verified" date. Parents can report updates directly from any hotel detail page using the "Report an Update" form.

I visited a hotel and the information has changed. How do I report it?

Every hotel detail page has a "Report an Update" form at the bottom. Tell us what changed and we will re-verify the listing. We take parent reports seriously: you are our most valuable source of on the ground intelligence.

Can I suggest a hotel for inclusion?

Absolutely. Use our suggestion form to recommend a hotel. We review every suggestion and will verify the property against our criteria before deciding whether to include it.
