Cornwall is what I'd look at in the UK for registered childcare and a sea view without a passport. Fowey Hall sits above the Fowey estuary in a Grade II listed arts-and-crafts manor, part of the Luxury Family Hotels group that runs the same registered Four Bears Den across five properties. You get two complimentary hours of childcare per night's stay (9.30am or 2.30pm sessions, pre-booked), a milk butler, Yoto players, buggies, and travel cots on arrival, and under 2s eat free. London to Newquay is 1hr 15min; Exeter is the reliable fallback at 2hr 30min from London with a 90-minute drive to Fowey. The estuary is not a soft sand beach but Readymoney Cove and Lantic Bay are twenty minutes away for proper paddling. May, June, and September give you 16 to 20C and empty coves before the school holiday rush. If you want regulated British childcare with a coastal setting without leaving the UK, Fowey Hall is the property I compare everything else against.

Stay here · Fowey Hall

It is the Cornish flagship of the only UK hotel group running the same registered Four Bears Den across multiple properties, with two free hours per night, milk butler service, and under 2s eating free. The heated pools work when the sea is too cold, and the estuary walk is flat for a 4pm pram nap.

Beach reality

Fowey itself is estuary and rock pools, not a sandy resort beach. Readymoney Cove near Bodmin is the nearest proper sand: shelving gently, busy by 11am in August, parking fills fast. Lantic Bay requires a 15-minute cliff walk that rules out a buggy (carrier essential). Polridmouth Cove is a flat 20-minute walk from Fowey along the coastal path. Hotel pools (heated indoor and outdoor) are the daily swim for under 2s. Sea temperature peaks at 17 to 18C in August; toddlers paddle happily, babies need a wetsuit nappy.

When to go

May to mid June and September are ideal: 15 to 19C, lighter crowds, Four Bears Den fully staffed. July and August are workable but Fowey roads jam and coves fill by 10am. Easter half term is busy but manageable. October half term works with pool focus and a fleece. November to March: many coastal restaurants close and the outdoor pool is cold.

Don't go if

Don't go if you want walk out from the room sand; Fowey is estuary first. Don't go in August bank holiday without booking months ahead. Don't go if steep coastal paths will frustrate you; Cornwall is vertical in places. Don't go expecting late night dining with a baby; the family hotels lean early.

A calm 5 day rhythm

Day one, arrive, Four Bears Den taster if slots allow, pool, room service dinner. Day two, book the 9.30am Four Bears session, walk the estuary with the pram while they play, nap, afternoon pool, listening service for adult dinner. Day three, Readymoney Cove morning, back for nap, Fowey village ice cream. Day four, Eden Project (buggy friendly indoors) or rockpooling at Readymoney. Day five, last swim, depart. Pre-book both Four Bears sessions at check-in.
